FAQ'S

"How does XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS Paint Protection Film heal itself?"

XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS Paint Protection Film uses a special polymer in its clear coat that flows even though it is cured. This allows the clear coat to find its natural level again after being disturbed on the surface.

"How deep a scratch will heal?"

The clear coat is designed to heal surface scratches and common swirl marks that occur during routine washing of the car. If the scratch penetrates through the film's clear coat, it will not heal.

"How long does it take for a scratch to heal?"

The time for a scratch to heal depends on the severity of the scratch and the ambient temperature. Minor scratches usually heal in one hour at room temperature (72°F). In warmer climates, healing time will be shorter. The healing process can be accelerated at any time by pouring hot water over the scratched area.

"How many times will the clear coat heal itself?"

With this technology, there is no limit to the number of times the clear coat can heal itself. As long as the clear coat is not penetrated it will heal over and over again.

"How long will the clear coat last?"

Depending on how the film is cared for, the clear coat can last indefinitely. Regular washing and waxing will keep the clear coat in top condition for years to come.

“Will Opticoat or Quartz hurt the film?”

Sealants such as Opticoat and cQuartz will not hurt the film or interfere with our ULTIMATE paint protection film’s self-healing properties.

“Can/should Opti-Coat or similar coating be applied to the car before the film is installed?”

We do NOT recommend applying sealants such as Opti-Coat or cQuartz to the parts of the car that will be covered with film. The low surface energy of paint sealant products such as these will cause adhesion problems both during installation and over the life of the product. In addition, it is worth noting that there is really no benefit to applying sealant to the paint before the film, since the film will provide far more environmental protection to the paint than a sealant ever could.

“How long should I wait to apply your product if my car has been repainted?”

You will need to talk to your body shop and see what they recommend. The time will vary depending on the paint system the body shop used. In any case, the time that they recommend you should wait to wax the paint, is the same time you will need to wait to install our product.

“How can I wax stealth without it looking shiny?”

We recommend using our XPEL Flawless Finish Paint Protection Film Sealant.

Stain & Chemical Resistance

"How does XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS Paint Protection Film resist staining?"

The clear coat on XPEL ULTIMATE has a very low surface energy, which makes it extremely difficult for organic compounds to stick to the film. Insects, bird droppings and environmental contaminants (which would normally cause yellowing) such as road oils, exhaust smoke and pollution can be removed during regular washing. An example of a similar technology would be Teflon, where a Teflon pan is easy to clean because nothing will stick to it.

“What can I use to clean the film with if the Film Cleaner isn’t working?”

We recommend using the film cleaner and a soft paint safe brush to clean the affected area. You may also use acetone or lacquer thinner in moderate use.

XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS Protection Film: Care Instructions

To keep your film looking great, follow a few simple guidelines:

· Wait 48 hours after installation to wash your car.
· Remove insect or other stains as soon as possible with bug and tar remover.
· Stubborn stains can be removed with 99% isopropyl alcohol or lacquer thinner. Take care to keep these chemicals off the vehicle’s paint.
· Seal with XPEL Flawless Finish Paint Protection Film Sealant at least once every 3 months to preserve  high gloss
· Light scratches in the film will self-heal in 20-30 minutes at room temperature. In colder conditions, or to accelerate the process, pour warm water (120°F) over the affected area.

All Other XPEL Protection Films: Care Instructions

· Wait 48 hours after installation to wash your car
· Use only soft terry cloth or microfiber towels on the film
· Do NOT wipe or scrub the film in direct sunlight or when the film is hot
· Do NOT use abrasive cleaners on the film
· Do NOT use dyed or colored car waxes on the film

Removing Scratches

Most scratches in the film can be removed using a rotary or dual-action buffer. For best results, it is recommended to use 3M Perfect-It Machine Polish (part number 06064) used with their color coded buffing pad (Part number 05738). If needed, this product can be followed by 3M Perfect-It Ultrafine Machine Polish (part number 06068) used with the blue pad (part number 05733) to restore a deep, swirl free shine.

Waxing the Film

Contamination from road oils, diesel smoke, pollen, and pollution can cause discoloration and deglossing of the film. While traditional automotive waxes can provide a small level of protection against contamination, XPEL Flawless Finish Film Sealant is designed specifically to provide the strongest possible barrier against these and other contaminants. Moreover, waxes that contain dyes and other chemicals such as naphtha or kerosene may discolor or degloss the film over time and should be avoided.
